This is a very bad copy of a photocopy of Tekla's wedding picture. Below is a better picture of her with her small family, shortly after moving to St. Louis, Missouri circa 1899. She is probably pregnant with my grandmother in this picture. This is her first son, Elmer in the picture.
Tekla Matilda Jonsson was born on September 23, 1878 in Hovmanstorp, Sköldinge, Södermanland, Sweden.
In 1886, she departed from Sköldinge, Sweden with her parents, Anders Petter and Anna Matilda Jonsson bound for America. On the immigration papers it says that they were going to Pierce City, Missouri. I do not know why they were headed for Missouri, but there is a large community of Swedes in Swedeborg, Missouri which is in Pulaski Co.
I know that Tekla met Alfred Peterson and they were married in Pulaski, Co., Missouri. Tekla had a short life and died on April 4, 1919 in St. Louis, Missouri, where she is buried. She and Alfred had the following children:
Elmer Peterson born September 8, 1897
Olga Linnea Peterson born November 27, 1899
Carl Peterson born 1907
Ethel Peterson born 1910
Tekla's parents settled in Kit Carson, Colorado and lived long past their daughter. I learned so much more about Tekla's family's life in Sweden from a Swedish researcher cousin and have visited Sweden to find all the places where they lived. Please check out my Swedish Pictures page to see more.
